Historical Notes:
The 14th Regiment Virginia Militia (Hardy's) was
called out July 13, 1861 to rendezvous at Strasbourg. Statement of Col. Harness, on
voucher of A.B. Funkhouse, shows this regiment was in the service of the Confederate
States in August 1861. Rolls show that Co. A to F of the regiment were ordered into the
service of the Confederate States on Sept. 10, 1861 by Brig. Gen. James Boggs, and
the companies enlisted a few days later for six months; reported as serving in the 18th
Brigade, Third Division, during this period. Many of the members are found to have
served subsequently in various Virginia volunteer organizations, principally in the 11th
and 18th Regiments Virginia Cavalry.
