Hatch's Battalion, Minnesota Volunteer Cavalry


Historical Notes HISTORICAL NOTES:
Hatch's Independent Battalion, Minnesota Cavalry was organized at Fort Snelling and St. Paul, in Companies as follows:
  • Companies "A," "B," "C," "D" July 25 to September, 1863.
  • Company "E" mustered August 31, 1864.
  • Company "F" mustered September 1, 1864.

    This regiment mustered out from April 26 to June 22, 1866.

    Hatch's Battalion did not lose any men in battle, but did have 21 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 21 fatalities.

  • Major E. A. C. Hatch - September 30, 1863 to June 1864
  • Lieutenant Colonel Charles Powell Adams - July 15, 1864 to June 22, 1866
  • Assignments ASSIGNMENTS:
    Organized at Fort Snelling and St. Paul, Minn, Companies "A," "B," "C," "D" July 25 to September, 1863. Company "E" mustered August 31, 1864, and Company "F" mustered September 1, 1864. Service SERVICE:
    Companies "A," "B," "C," "D" march to Pembina October 5-November 13, 1863, and frontier duty there until May, 1864. Moved to Fort Abercrombie May 5-16, 1864. Assigned to duty Companies "A" and "B" as garrison at Fort Abercrombie, Company "C" at Alexandria and Pomme de Terre. Company "D" on patrol duty from Fort Abercrombie to Pembina. Companies "E" and "F" on frontier duty. Mustered out April 26 to June 22, 1866. ROSTERS:
    The composite rosters of this unit contains the names of 1220 men.
  • Company A - Ramsey County, Goodhue County, and Hennepin County
  • Company B - Hennepin County and Winona County
  • Company C - Dakota County, Hennepin County, and Goodhue County
  • Company D - Ramsey County and various others
  • Company E - Hennepin County, Anoka County, Wright County and Stearns County
  • Company F - Dakota County
