1st Battalion Cherokee Partisan Rangers
HISTORICAL NOTES:
The 1st Battalion Cherokee Partisan Rangers (also named Bryan´s Battalion and 1st Cherokee Cavalry Battalion, later 2nd Cherokee Mounted Volunteers (Confederate).
Originally this unit was a state unit to be transferred to Confederate service in 1863. There is a 2d Cherokee Mounted Volunteers unit on Roll 90 in the NA under Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers Who Served in Organizations Raised Directly by the Confederate Government (M258).
In February 1863 the Battalion was consolidated with five companies attached to Stand Watie´s First Cherokee Mounted Volunteers to form the 2nd Regiment, Cherokee Mounted Volunteers commanded by Colonel William Penn Adair.

Late in the war Bryan served as Colonel of the Cherokee Battalion for Special Service (sometimes known as a regiment) which existed during April to May 1865.
ROSTERS:
The battalion had five companies. Bryan was authorized by General Albert Pike in the summer of 1862 to raise 100 men or more as partisan rangers. The first company was mustered in at Fort Davis, Canadian District, Cherokee Nation on 20 July, 1862. General T.C. Hindman ordered Bryan to organize the company and four additional companies into a battalion in September 1862.
