1st Chickasaw Cavalry Battalion

HISTORICAL NOTES:
The 1st Chickasaw Cavalry Battalion was organized in the fall of 1862 with five companies. It served in T. Walker's Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department, and skirmished in the Indian Territory and along the border. The unit was included in the surrender on June 23, 1865, with about 75 officers and men.

The battalion is first identified in May 1862, though may have existed in late 1861, first commanded by Lt. Col. J.D. Harris, reorganized in 1862 under Lt Col Lemuel Reynolds, and reorganized again in Oct 1864 under Lt Col Martin Sheco (or Shecoe) and called "Shecoe's Chickasaw Battalion". One reference calls it the "Chickasaw Regiment" but there is no further evidence it was increased from a battalion.

Scanland's Squadron may have been part of this battalion. The battalion was apparently posted at Ft Arbuckle much of the time but was at/near Cochran's (near present Frisco OK, Pontotoc County) for the Oct 1864 reorganization and 20 miles north of there in the Feb. 13, 1864 Battle of Middle Boggy along with Jumper's Seminole Battalion.
