The Illinois 12th Infantry Regiment (3 months 1861) was organized at Springfield, Ill., and mustered in for three months' service May 2, 1861.

Mustered out August 1, 1861.

The Regiment lost 4 by disease during service.
Officers OFFICERS:
  • Colonel John McArthur – promoted to brigadier general on May 1, 1862.
  • Colonel Augustus L. Chetlain – promoted to brigadier general on December 19, 1863.
  • Lieutenant Colonel Henry Van Sellars – mustered out with the regiment.
