Florida 1st Battalion Special Infantry

HISTORICAL NOTES:
The Florida 1st Battalion Special Infantry was originally mustered as artillery and apparently served as Cavalry Partisan Rangers for awhile. They were organized during the fall of 1861 with six companies which totaled 577 officers and men.

The unit, initially commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Daniel P. Holland, served first as heavy artillery before being reorganized as infantry on 13 Nov 1861. Charles Hopkins became commander in May 1862 and served until the end of the war. OFFICERS:
