This is a project to identify Civil War Gravesites. We encourage you to help us by adding known gravesites, or leaving a query regarding soldiers for whom you are searching.
Some work has been done in this area, but there is still much to be done. The stongest need is to create a comprehensive database of grave registrations. Several have worked on various aspects of this and they are listed below. You should begin your search by checking these.
An estimated 258,000 Confederate soldiers died during the war, 94,000 in battle and 164,000 by disease and other causes. The major battles are listed below with comments on where the dead are buried. Note that the number of Confederates killed are best estimates from various sources. Many times casualty numbers are listed which are much higher. The casualty count generally includes those wounded and captured.
